A number of new commercial, residential and city construction projects are planned for Poulsbo. Here’s a quick summary of what’s coming, starting with the College Marketplace additions (Olhava).

Nordland Trails Apartments
In the spring of 2021, Chinook Contractors hopes to start construction on eight residential buildings near Olympic College. The complex will include approximately 70 units, with standard apartments as well as townhouse-style units. Nordland Trails will include a clubhouse for events, along with outdoor entertaining spaces. The complex will also feature an outdoor terrace, a fitness center and recreation trails, gardens, a playground, and other amenities.
Chinook also developed the nearby Arendal Apartments on Viking Ave in recent years. This Kitsap Sun article has more details about the complex, but it requires a paid subscription to access it.
Fairfield Inn & Suites (Hotel by Marriott)

A new 3-story hotel is reportedly planned near Olympic College and College Marketplace. The Fairfield Inn & Suites will include an INDOOR pool, a fitness center, breakfast and patio areas, and parking to accommodate over 100 guest rooms. See more details in this Kitsap Sun article. You can also see the project status here.
Firestone Tire & Repair Store, & Taco Bell
The newest addition to the College Marketplace center also includes a Firestone tire and repair shop, which will be located near Home Depot. A Taco Bell will also be constructed in the vacant lot next to the Wendy’s.
Poulsbo Event & Recreation Center

Poulsbo secured $244,000 in funding for the first phase of the Poulsbo Event and Recreation Center, taking steps toward the construction of a multi-million dollar athletic and events venue. It will include space for meetings, recreation fields, city offices, and a pool. The initial funding will cover the costs of a feasibility study, drawings, estimates and other early project costs. New Residential Home Construction

Early documents reveal plans for 130 new single-family homes between the Poulsbo Meadows and Blue Heron residential developments along Noll Road in Pouslbo. Clearing of some of these areas has already begun. Check back soon for more information.
Highway 305 Roundabout

Along the east entrance to Poulsbo at WA-305 & Johnson Rd NE, work may begin in the summer of 2020 on a new roundabout (or traffic circle). But the project also includes:
- A pedestrian tunnel under the highway
- A new street at Johnson Road that will link up with Noll Road
- A shared-use path
- A replacement fish culvert
- Space for public art.

Poulsbo’s Recent Growth
While some lament the development of additional commercial and residential property, we’ve grown too big for our britches. The demand for housing remains high, and the cost of rent has gone up right alongside home prices. So there will be many families who welcome additional living options. The challenge is to preserve that small-town Scandinavian vibe, while expanding the infrastructure to support our growing population. Hopefully these economic expansions will provide jobs, inject more cash into the local economy, and provide more housing options for our North Kitsap families.
